Now that group play at the MLS is Back Tournament has wrapped up, MLSsoccer.com's Calen Carr runs through his Top 5 teams from the round-robin format. The discussion took place on Thursday's MLS Today show.
"My list is my list," Carr told co-host Susannah Collins, "and I'm picking it based on who I think can potentially win this, not necessarily who's played the best."
Check out the video below and then read on for a brief explanation on each side.
1. Columbus Crew SC
The Crew conceded zero goals through three Group E matches, and the midfield trio of Artur, Lucas Zelarayan and Darlington Nagbe looks legit. Columbus possesses quality with and without the ball, so Carr's called them the MLS is Back Tournament favorites.
2. LAFC
The defending Supporters' Shield champions scored 11 goals through three Group F matches, tallying at a blistering pace even without Carlos Vela. Diego Rossi and Bradley Wright-Phillips have led the attack, though some defensive question marks remain.
3. Toronto FC
Without Jonathan Osorio and Jozy Altidore, TFC have still looked like a serious contender. Ayo Akinola has seized his chance, and there's still constant threat that Alejandro Pozuelo poses.
4. Philadelphia Union
Andre Blake has quietly been a rock at goalkeeper for the Union, who are impressing from front to back. Jim Curtin's group boasts plenty of depth and can grow into the tournament.
5. Seattle Sounders FC
The Sounders didn't win Group B, but Carr isn't counting out the reigning MLS Cup champions. Jordan Morris is nearing top form, and Seattle's shown they thrive in do-or-die matches.
