D.C. United and the San Jose Earthquakes meet for the only time in league play when the clubs face off in a meaningful encounter for both clubs at RFK Stadium on Saturday evening. United return to league play after seeing their three-game league winning run put to an end last week in a 3-1 defeat at New York City FC, but still lead the Eastern Conference and the Supportersí Shield. The Quakes are continuing their road swing after starting with a bang, winning a second game in a row in a dominant 5-0 victory at Sporting KC that put them within three points of the final playoff position in the Western Conference.
- D.C. United had their three-game winning streak snapped, going down to a 3-1 defeat to New York City FC at Yankee Stadium on Thursday evening.
- Quincy Amarikwa collected an assist on the Quakes goal in their 1-0 win against the Colorado Rapids. Since his arrival in San Jose, Amarikwa has four goals and an assist; he’s been involved in each of San Jose’s last five goals scored, over the last seven games, the only goals scored since he joined the club.
- United won the only meeting between the teams a year ago, a 2-1 win at Buck Shaw Stadium that was their second win in their last three visits to San Jose. United’s win there in 2011 was their first on the road against San Jose since 1998.
- United won the last meeting between the teams at RFK Stadium, a 1-0 victory June 22, 2013. It was United’s first home win against the Quakes since 2008; San Jose won the next three visits to the nation’s capital.
