Goal of the Week

Erik Hurtado wins AT&T Goal of the Week after stunning volley for Sporting Kansas City

Which stunning volley earned Week 17 Goal of the Week?

It was the audacious type of play you'd typically see in a video game, and now it’s earned AT&T Goal of the Week for Week 17 of the 2020 season.

We’re referring to a wonder strike from Sporting Kansas City forward Erik Hurtado, of course, after he earned a landslide 72.94% of the total vote for first place. Hurtado, tracking a lofted Amadou Dia long ball over his shoulder, volleyed the ball straight out of the air for the 2-1 win against Nashville SC.

Second place went to Seattle Sounders midfielder Nicolas Lodeiro, who curled home a stunning free kick in Sunday’s 3-1 defeat at LAFC. His left-footed strike slotted into the top corner and earned 19.07% of the vote.

Third place went to New York Red Bulls rookie Caden Clark (4.89% of the vote), who volleyed home atop the 18-yard-box in a 1-0 win at Atlanta United. The strike came on Clark’s MLS debut, as the midfielder received the starting nod mere hours after his first-team deal was announced.

LAFC midfielder Francisco Ginella slotted into fourth place (2.49% of the vote) with a scoring volley atop the 18-yard box against Seattle. The Uruguayan midfielder’s strike stood as the eventual game-winner in a 3-1 victory.  Montreal Impact midfielder Amar Sejdic brought up the rear with 0.61% of the vote. His first MLS goal was a low, driven effort in a 2-1 defeat at the Philadelphia Union.
