LAFC have signed 18-year-old central defender Mohamed Traore, the club announced Monday. The club used the top selection in the MLS Waiver Order to make the signing.
Traore, a native of Dakar, Senegal, arrives at LAFC from the Soccer Institute of Montverde Academy in Orlando, Florida, wher he arrived for high school at age 14. In his senior year of high school had registered seven assists to help Montverde to a 21-4-1 record in the 2019 season, also earning a call-up to Senegal's Under-17 national team.
“Mohamed is an exciting, young player with a lot of potential,” LAFC EVP of soccer operations & general manager John Thorrington said in a team statement. “We believe getting him in our environment will help him continue to grow and develop and prepare him for success at this level.”
