D.C. United appear to be having some difficulties negotiating a new deal with one of their top players, according to a report from The Washington Post’s Steven Goff.

According to a Wednesday report from Goff, United and midfielder Perry Kitchen are “pretty far apart” in contract discussions. The 23-year-old Kitchen, who made 31 starts for D.C. in 2015, will be out of contract at the end of the year.

Originally drafted as a Generation adidas player out of Akron in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft, Kitchen, 23, has started 164 of 179 MLS games (including playoffs) in his five years with D.C. United.
