Report: DC United close to signing Finnish international

Markus Halsti

D.C. United may be close to adding an experienced defender/midfielder, as reports surfaced on Wednesday linking the club with Finnish national teamer Markus Halsti.

Capable of lining up in a variety of roles in midfield and defense, Halsti has played for Swedish club Malmo FF since 2008. He captained Malmo to the Allsvenskan title in 2014, earning himself a place on the league’s team of the year in the process.

Halsti also boasts UEFA Champions League and Europa League experience, and the 30-year-old has made 20 appearances for his country.

D.C. United is familiar with Malmo FF, having played the 21-time Swedish champs in two of the last three preseasons (pictured above). Halsti featured in both of those matchups, playing at least 45 minutes in each contest.
