Five years ago this month was the first time most MLS fans heard of Chris Wondolowski. The San Jose Earthquakes forward went on a tear in late spring of 2010, and he's stayed on that tear even since, to the tune of 100 regular-season goals.
Wondo became the ninth player in MLS history to hit the century mark thanks to a 68th minute penalty conversion against Orlando City in Sunday evening's 1-1 draw. He drove his shot low and to Tally Hall's right, sending the OCSC 'keeper the wrong way.
Wondolowski is the second-fastest to hit triple digits, behind only Taylor Twellman.
He now has seven goals on the year, second in the league behind Columbus Crew SC striker Kei Kamara.
Former Quakes and LA Galaxy attacker Landon Donovan is the all-time leader with 144 goals.
One of Wondo's old teammates in Houston, however, wasn't going to let the moment pass without a little humor. Given that the milestone goal came against Hall, another former Houston player, current Dynamo captain Brad Davis gave the goalkeeper a little schtick for helping Wondo. Hall had been to blame for the fateful penalty being called in the first place.
