San Jose Earthquakes vs. Portland Timbers
AVAYA STADIUM, San Jose, Calif.

August 2, 2015 (MLS Game #221)
5 pm ET (ESPN2, ESPN Deportes, TSN5, MLS LIVE)

Two teams looking to put a halt to recent downturns meet when the San Jose Earthquakes entertain the Portland Timbers on Sunday afternoon at Avaya Stadium before an ESPN2 audience. The Quakes come into the game riding a four-game losing slide, after their 3-1 loss at Vancouver Whitecaps FC last weekend. The Timbers had their current winless run extended to three games last week, suffering a 4-1 loss at FC Dallas last Saturday.

  • Quincy Amarikwa scored his third goal in the last two matches, but the Quakes still saw their league losing slide extended to four games in a 3-1 loss to Vancouver Whitecaps FC at BC Place on Sunday.
  • The Timbers had their overall winless run extended to three games in a third consecutive loss away from home, falling 4-1 to FC Dallas last Saturday at Toyota Stadium.
  • The teams are meeting for the second time this season. Jack Jewsbury scored a dramatic winner in stoppage time for the game’s only goal in a Timbers victory July 5 at Providence Park.
  • The Timbers’ 2-1 victory on Oct. 4 of last year in Santa Clara was the first by a visiting team in the all-time league series. The Timbers have won four of seven matches in Portland, with three draws.
