What a week for Sporting Kansas City.
After lifting the Open Cup trophy at PPL Park on Wednesday, the team had to travel Portland and take on the Timbers in a huge match.
They came away with all three points thanks to an outstanding performance from Tim Melia and some solid work from captain Matt Besler.
The win put Sporting safely above the red line, and they are on their way to securing a fifth straight playoff berth.

GK: Tim Melia (Sporting Kansas City) – Continued a fantastic week by keeping the Timbers at bay and racking up a shutout in Sporting KC’s win.
D: Brek Shea (Orlando City SC) – Started at left back, but moved to the right side early in the game while providing some much-needed attacking punch in Orlando's win against Montreal.
D: Omar Gonzalez (LA Galaxy) – Helped contain Clint Dempsey and Obafemi Martins for most of the match against the Sounders, ensuring the Galaxy's place in the playoffs.
D: Matt Besler (Sporting Kansas City) – Went from raising a trophy to anchoring a backline that earned a huge shutout in Portland.
D: Connor Lade (New York Red Bulls) – Played left back instead of his usual spot on the right and proved unfazed, assisting on Bradley Wright-Phillips' game-winner.
M: Fabian Castillo (FC Dallas) – Was an absolute terror for the Dynamo defense, earning a penalty kick and assisting on another goal as FC Dallas clinched a playoff berth.
M: Harry Shipp (Chicago Fire) – Scored a goal and had an assist, helping to keep the Revolution’s defense honest despite New England looking the better side for large stretches of the Fire's win.
M: Luke Mulholland (Real Salt Lake) – Provided the game-winner with a stunner from outside the box and helped dominate the midfield in RSL's 2-1 win.
M: Jonathan Osorio (Toronto FC) – Had an incredible day for Toronto, completing 97 percent of his passes and providing the pass that led to a Union own goal in TFC's 3-1 win.
F: David Texeira (FC Dallas) – Scored two fantastic goals against the Dynamo to justify his selection in Oscar Pareja's starting XI.
F: Gilberto (Chicago Fire) – Was lively all night, scoring one goal and taking seven shots, for a Fire team that beat the Revolutionat home.
Coach: Peter Vermes (Sporting Kansas City) – Re-focused his team after an emotional Open Cup Final victory, getting all three points in Portland.
